Week 1 – April 5th, 2022 Theme: Board Member Recruitment

Last month we shared resources about employee onboarding. Board member onboarding is a different process that starts with effective recruitment strategies designed for board members instead. For instance, are the Board Member Position Descriptions you show to prospective board members up-to-date? Do they use operational language relative to board work? The templates in this article will help you take that first step toward successful Board Member Onboarding: https://boardable.com/blog/board-member-recruitment/

Week 2 – April 12th, 2022 Theme: Board Orientation

When new board members engage with your organization, make certain your Board Member onboarding process draws parallels between their position description and what you are orienting them to. This blog provides various options to consider from multiple different tools: https://www.councilofnonprofits.org/tools-resources/board-orientation

Week 3 – April 19th, 2022 Theme: Executive Committee Purpose and Structure

As your board members move in and out of Executive Committee roles, they will need additional onboarding. Likewise, your Executive Committee should be treated as the Executive Director’s partners in onboarding other, new board members. You can quickly compare and contrast various roles and the onboarding needs of different board positions using the infographics inside this resource: https://boardable.com/blog/executive-committee/

Week 4 – April 26th, 2022 Theme: Managing Restricted Funds

One thing all PTI and CPRC Board Members need to clearly understand is the difference between Unrestricted and Restricted funds. This topic should be included in your center’s Board Member onboarding materials and in annual refresher training for all Board Members. This resource offers a clear description you can use to help spell it out to board members: https://www.propelnonprofits.org/resources/managing-restricted-funds/
